10 Most Common Lawn Questions Part I

Chances are, if you’ve got a lawn, you’ve got questions about how to care for it and keep it growing. As a property owner, you’ve invested a lot of time and money into your landscaping, but all of that will be lost if it withers and dies; so take care of the situation and do your research. Talk with a local landscape maintenance company about things like lawn mowing maintenance and getting on a schedule for lawn spraying services. Even if you decide to tackle the turf issue yourself, there are things you’ll need to know about how and when to perform certain types of maintenance, which products will work for your specific species of grass, and which tools you should keep on hand so that you’re well-prepared for the task ahead.

An Inquiring Mind Means Grass of a Greener Kind

So just what makes the hit list when it comes to lawn care? Here are the top ten:

1.) How high should I aim?
To maximize the health of your lawn, mow it to a height between 2 1/2 to 4 inches, with three being the ideal. Giving it that amount of height will make it better able to photosynthesize (the process of making its own food), which means it’ll also stay nice and green.

2.) How often is too often?
The question can best be answered with another question: how fast is it growing? Keep the number three high in your mind when it comes to your lawn, because it’s a one you’ll use often. That said, no more than one-third of the height of your grass should be taken in a single cutting, so take a peek before you power up your mower and let that determine your mowing schedule, rather than letting the calendar days rule.

3.) What’s the best time of day to mow?
The most ideal times are late afternoon or early evening.

4.) How often will the lawn need to be watered?
Unless it’s rained, make sure that you run your sprinklers for 30 minutes once a week.

5.) What’s the best weed preventative?
Having a thick lawn that’s healthy will actually crowd your weeds and prevent them from growing, so aim to improve your lawn’s health, and you’ll naturally weed out those weeds.
