We all love being outdoors in the months of spring, summer and early fall, but none of us love dealing with the mosquitoes. Not only are they annoying, but they also carry diseases, so it’s important to keep them at bay in every way possible. One of the best methods is the use of MistAway Systems, which are automatic mosquito misting systems that repel mosquitoes as well as other small and annoying insects including no-see-ums.
Spray It On
Essentially, the way MistAway Systems work is by automatically spraying a very fine mist of environmentally safe, botanically based insecticides through a series of nozzles installed at various points throughout your property. Once they’re installed, the nozzles are nearly undetectable, blending into your landscape so that they do nothing to detract from the aesthetics of your yard. Fully customized to your needs and the layout of your space, the automatic mosquito misting control unit is easily installed anywhere with access to a water faucet and an electrical outlet. Options include a tankless mosquito misting model or a drum-based model.
Each precision-engineered mosquito misting nozzle of the MistAway Systems is conveniently installed at 10- to 15-foot intervals around the perimeter of a property, utilizing the positions of fencing as well as various trees and risers as installation points to ensure a completely mosquito-free yard. The electronic controller of the misting unit automatically begins a mosquito-killing mist that lasts from 30 to 60 seconds, first around dawn and again at dusk. These are peak times to quell mosquito activity, while still avoiding times of day during which beneficial insects such as bees and butterflies are most active.
No Mosquitoes in the Mist
Once the system activates, a fine mist drifts around the property, settling on the grass and all landscaping within range. The mist then kills any mosquitoes of pests that it comes into contact with. For times when the system is not automatically triggered, the handheld remote offers additional methods of activation to ensure that your time outdoors is completely bite-free. You may also use a convenient app installed on your phone to control the system when you’re away from home.
Because of the system’s outside location, it will naturally be exposed to the elements. From direct sunlight and high temperatures to rain and humidity and even extreme cold, MistAway systems run for many years with little need for maintenance and withstand the test of time. Designed with stainless steel mosquito misting nozzles of the highest quality and seals on all pumps and fittings, every component is extremely durable.
Ease of Use
For occasions of use outside of the dawn/dusk automatic activation, the system also offers a user-friendly, intuitive interface that is simple and convenient. In addition, the systems have features specifically designed for the prevention of a siphon in the nozzle circuit. They also recognize the presence of leaks and shut off until the leak is fully repaired. Another great feature is a sensor that prevents the system from turning on in high winds. Agitation prior to each mist cycle ensures that the concentration of insecticide is always consistent.
The botanical insecticides used in MistAway systems – natural pyrethrins and synthetic permethrin – are the most commonly used formulations for mist mosquito treatments. Because they are low in toxicity to people and animals, they are also common ingredients in home-use insect control products such as household aerosol products and pet shampoos. Even so, close or frequent direct contact with the mist is not advisable, as respiratory problems include coughing and wheezing may result from inhaling them. Rashes or itching may result from skin contact.
